- GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO – Location, location, location! Where have you always wanted to visit? If it’s budget and pregnancy-friendly, take the plunge! Now, of course there are some exceptions. If you’ve always wanted to hike Machu Picchu, we suggest you don’t do it while growing a human inside of you – your already-swollen feet will not thank you. However, if you’ve always dreamt of having freshly made pasta from Italy, or seeing the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, treat yourself to the adventure! This vacation is for you – you should make the most of it.
- TRAVEL IN YOUR SECOND TRIMESTER – For the simple reason that your first trimester is typically nauseating, and your third trimester is like running a marathon… every day. We suggest you use the “Happy Medium” time of your pregnancy, so you can feel your best on your trip!
- CONSULT YOUR DOCTORS – You probably already knew this, but making sure your OB/GYN knows where you are going and OK’s it is key. Perhaps you’ve had a few complications in your first trimester, and your doctor would prefer you don’t take a plane ride longer than four hours for safety – these are the things we’d want you to consider while planning. BONUS TIP: We also suggest you visit a travel doctor if you plan on going overseas. They may have some information your regular doctor doesn’t, such as which areas of the world are currently experiencing disease and virus outbreaks or which areas have water that is unsafe to drink or cook your food with. Their expertise is highly valuable, especially since your immune system is weaker during pregnancy and you’re at a higher risk of contracting an illness while traveling.
- REST – You may be visiting a destination with some of the most exciting tourist attractions the world has to offer! But remember, baby is coming and soon enough, your hours of sleep are going to plummet, as is your time to have slow mornings where wake-up time is undecided and getting out of bed is optional. (Don’t worry – it’ll all be worth it, because you’ll have your sweet newborn to gaze at and that alone is unbeatable). So, we offer this tip: balance your adventurous fun and sightseeing with some kicking back and relaxing. Go to the spa together and get a Mama-to-Be massage. You won’t regret it. Bonus Tip: Book a hotel or resort that’s in walking distance from all the fun things you’re wanting to do. This way, you’ll be able to call it quits as soon as you feel tired and get right back to your bed where you can kick your feet up or take a cozy nap.
- HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER – This one’s a bit out-of-the-ordinary, but what better way to document your time on the Amalfi Coast or in the Panamanian Rainforest than to have a professional take your picture? Ditch the selfie stick and head to Instagram to find and book a great photographer who lives in your destination area. In addition to memories, you’ll have beautiful images that will last a lifetime!
