How to Plan a Kick-Butt Weeknight Halloween

Costumes, candy, jack-o-lanterns— the list goes on! Halloween continues to be one of kids’ most favorite holidays. All of this is loads of fun, but what happens when Halloween falls on a weekday?

So, how do you create a fun weeknight Halloween celebration without totally jeopardizing your nighttime routine? We’ve got the scoop!
  1. Crock-Pot/Slow Cooker Meals for The Win!
    1. Let’s be real—when Halloween is on a weeknight, it’s go time. With the excitement of Halloween fun after an already busy school day, prepping dinner in advance is one of the easiest things you can do. We say, why not crock-pot it? As the brisk fall air sets in, chances are you’ll want something warm and yummy for dinner anyway, which is easy and quick to achieve in a slow cooker.
  2. Plan a Trick-or-Treating Route
    1. This, my friends, is crucial. We know, you’ve heard it all too many years in a row— “Just 5 more minutes!” or “One more neighborhood!” Moms and dads of the world, trust us on this one— Plan. A. Route. Map it out and make it fun! Make sure your littles know that once you’ve completed the route, it’s time to go home.
  3. Wind-down activities
    1. In the midst of all the Halloween excitement, the last things your kids wanna do is go home! Have something for them to look forward to after trick-or-treating is over. Our favorite wind-down festivities include watching Halloween movies and, of course, candy indulgences! Snuggle up with the kids, enjoy some candy, and watch their favorite movies until bedtime.
  4. Turn all outside house lights OFF
    1. Once the fam is in for the night, be sure to turn off all outside lights. Traditionally, lights off mean no trick-or-treaters welcome, and will prevent little visitors throughout the night. No mid-night candy goers = easier transition for your kiddos.
  5. Go in for the goods
    1. You’ve made it through the night and the kids are in bed. Candy bags are off to the side, and, after all, you’ve basically made this the best Halloween ever. It’s only fair that you get to pick out your favorite candies from the littles’ stash! They won’t know.
