The most common New Year resolutions are health related—some want to lose weight, some want to start working out, and the list goes on. Whatever the case, health related goals are one of the top trends to kick off the new year.
Plot twist-- you’ve got a bun in the oven! Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean your health goals have to be thrown out the window. Here are some of our favorite ways to maintain the healthiest you during pregnancy and crush your goals for the New Year:
1. Exercise often: Now that you’ve got a little one on the way, it’s more important than ever to take care of your body. Exercising during pregnancy promotes better circulation and increases your stamina during labor and delivery. Staying active can also give you better sleep (holla!), relief from any back pains or body stiffness, and a quicker post-partum recovery time. Power walking, practicing yoga or Pilates, and even light weight lifting are all safe to partake in during pregnancy—and don’t forget to stretch! Listen to your body, don’t overdo it, and you’re golden!
2. Superfood nutrition: It’s true what they say—what mommy eats, baby eats. Now, we’re ALL about indulging in your cravings (sometimes), because after all… happy mommy, happy baby. But when it comes to your everyday meals, incorporating superfoods into your regimen will fuel your body with energy and fuel baby with healthy nutrients. Some of our favorite superfoods include avocados, almonds, kale, lean meats, quinoa, fresh fruits and veggies, and more. Don’t forget your prenatal vitamins!
3. Drink more water: Staying hydrated is always important, but especially when you’re pregnant. Your body is working overtime to support you and your growing babe, so replenishing yourself is critical. Focus on drinking about half your weight in ounces per day to stay properly hydrated. General rule of thumb—if your urine is much darker than a pale straw color, get to drinking!
4. Make time for you: Because everyone needs some “me” time. Schedule a day of pampering and enjoy time to unwind and de-stress. Whether it’s a hair or nail appointment or a prenatal massage, it’s important to take some time to treat yourself to a day all about YOU. Mental and emotional health is just as important as physical health— baby can feel when mommy is overworked, so it’s important to allow yourself to relax and release any stress. As you welcome your newest little ones into your lives this year, may this year be the BEST one ever.
