Have you ever tried to make your own fossil? Crafts that double as science experiments are so much fun! What better way to teach your children about science than to make sure they enjoy the experience? The fossil craft recipe is one of our favorite crafts for kids. You can do this activity after taking a nature walk, or just go outside and collect “specimens” to turn into fossils. You can also use household items or toys to turn into fossils. The recipe below will make about 15 medium sized fossils. Let us know what your children used to make fossils!
Fossil Craft Recipe
(about 15 fossils)
1 1/2 cups of wet, used coffee grounds
3/4 cup of cold coffee
3/4 cup salt
1 1/2 cups flour
Mix all the ingredients together and add more flour slowly if the dough is too sticky.
Roll the dough into balls and then flatten.
Press the specimen onto to dough carefully.
Once the imprint has been made, carefully pull the specimen off of the dough.
Let the dough dry overnight, and you have a brand new fossil!
