7 Benefits Of Using Coconut Oil For Your Baby

Coconut Oil . . .

It’s the new holy grail of, well, just about everything. You cook with it, use it in your hair, your body—let’s face it, you use this stuff any way you can! We’ve experienced the incredible benefits of coconut oil on ourselves, so why not share these benefits with our little ones?

Coconut oil contains Vitamin E, healthy fats, antioxidants, and is an all-natural remedy that can be used to heal your baby on a deeper level than most store-bought remedies.

Here are some of our favorite ways to use coconut oil for your baby:

  1. Cradle Cap

Ahh, cradle cap. This is very common for babies within the first few months of life, so mommies, no need to panic! Typically, cradle cap presents itself in two different ways: flaky, dry patches that looks almost like dandruff, or thick, oily scaling that may have a yellow or brown color. Coconut oil contains anti-microbial properties and is a great way to combat cradle cap. Simply use the coconut oil to massage your baby’s scalp with your fingers or a soft brush. This will soothe, moisturize, and help heal the areas affected.

  1. Eczema

Thanks to such a high volume of vitamins and antioxidants, coconut oil is a great solution for your baby’s irritated skin that may be a case of eczema. Once applied, let the coconut oil rest and do its thing. Leave the area cool and watch the flare-up, clear up.

  1. Dry skin and chapped lips

With coconut oil being chemical free and all natural, it’s just about the best moisturizer your baby can use. Massage this all over your baby’s skin and/or little lips for dryness relief and soft skin.

  1. Diaper rash

Coconut oil contains antibacterial and antifungal properties and serves as an excellent moisturizer to soothe your baby’s bum. It penetrates deeper into the skin than other oils and creams, and creates a barrier to protect against future poopy sessions (yep, we went there).

  1. Healthy hair

Ok—this one maaaay also be fun for moms, too. What can we say? Tangles happen to the best of us. Using coconut oil in your baby’s hair (or your own) during bath time is a great way to keep your baby’s hair shiny, healthy, and easier to manage.

  1. Chest rub for colds

Now this one is brilliant, and we mean brilliant! This is for all you mommies out there who prefer more natural remedies when dealing with a sick baby. Warm up some coconut oil, add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil (peppermint works great for congestion), and massage gently into your little one’s chest.

  1. Homemade baby foods

Adding coconut oil to homemade baby food is a great way to provide extra health benefits for your baby. Coconut oil is known for easy digestibility and absorbability, maintaining energy levels (because every 1-2-year-old needs more energy), and supporting the body’s natural detoxification process. Basically magic in a bottle.
